3 Fruit-Fueled Recipes to Battle the Cold and Flu
Several home remedies can give you relief from the uncomfortable symptoms of the flu and common cold. Signs such as fever, chills, body ache, and congestion in the nose can be annoying and tiresome. Along with medications, there are many quick fruit-based recipes that can help you battle the cold. Here are three of them:
1. Fruit juice pops
When the flu hits, it becomes more important to keep your body nourished. However, along with nourishment, eating something that tastes good is essential too. Fruit juice pops fulfill both these requirements. These pops are easy to make and give you the refreshment you need when you are sick. To make these, you will need half a cup of water, half a cup of sugar, four cups unsweetened apple juice, two cups of unsweetened orange or pineapple juice, half a cup of lemon juice, and 12 molds or paper cups. Now, take a large saucepan and pour water and sugar in it. Let it simmer for three to four minutes. Once done, you can mix the juices in. Pour the mixture into molds and leave them for freezing till they become firm.
2. Yogurt with berries
Here is another quick recipe for anyone who is experiencing the irritating symptoms of the flu and cold. This easy dish will require five cups of frozen or fresh blackberries, one-third cup of water, two tablespoons of lemon juice, one cup of sugar, and four cups of fat-free yogurt that is devoid of added sugars. To make this, take a food processor and make a puree using blackberries, lemon juice, and water. Using a strainer, reserve the pulp and juice and strain out the blackberries (don’t forget to remove the seeds.) Take a large bowl and add the blackberry mixture to the yogurt. Whip it thoroughly and freeze it for about two hours.
3. Fruit salad with citrus sauce
This is a versatile recipe that can be made on special occasions as well as for everyday consumption. The ingredients that you require to make this recipe are three-fourth cup of orange juice, one-third cup of grape juice, two tablespoons of lemon juice, one tablespoon of sugar, one cup of melon balls, one cup of grapes (halved), one cup of fresh strawberries (halved), and fresh mint leaves. Take two bowls; one small and one large. In the small one, mix orange, grape, and lemon juice along with sugar. Pour all the fruits in the large bowl and add the juice mix to this. Top this with fresh mint leaves.
